How to Make Moving Less Stressful

Moving is never on the top of anyone’s list of fun things to do list, but when we have to move, well, we usually just expect to be stressed out for weeks, if not months. Just thinking about it may even make your stomach drop: all that packing, the boxes, the first night in an unfamiliar place. However, there are ways that you can make moving less stressful. To help you make the moving process as stress-free and pleasant as possible, we’ve put together the following moving tips.

The Before Plan

One of the best ways to take the stress out of the moving process is to have a solid plan way in advance of moving day. As soon as you know that a move is in your future, you should start getting organized. This process should include cleaning out your current home, going through closest and storage areas and making decisions about what will make the move with you and what needs to be thrown out or donated. You also want to make a plan for what you want to keep in commercial storage. Your new home may not have the same amount of space, so decide what larger items you want to keep but may need to store.

Ask for the Help You Need to Make Moving Less Stressful

Moving goes a lot smoother when you have people who can help and support you through the process. Let your friends and family know you are moving and be sure to ask for their advice. Often, they can recommend moving companies they have used in the past, can help you with that above decluttering process, and can help you do the actual boxing up of belongings.

Be Flexible and Take Care of Yourself

Inevitably, something will go wrong with your moving process: whether that is lost boxes or small things falling through the cracks. The best thing you can do when moving is to take things as they come and be flexible when a plan doesn’t work out. You also want to make sure you are taking care of yourself, too, getting sleep, and dealing with the emotions that come along with a big life change.
