5 Ways To Stay Healthy During a Long-Distance Move

So much happens during a long-distance move, which means you need to be in tip-top shape; it’s not a time for you to fall ill. Let’s face it—moving far away can be a real pain. Imagine doing all of that not in the best health. Yeah, it sounds terrible, doesn’t it? Not to worry—we’ve got five ways to stay healthy during a long-distance move.

Sleep Tight

Don’t skimp out on sleep. You need a good night’s sleep before and leading up to the move. Sleep deprivation could cause you to fall seriously ill. Sometimes, people have no idea just how much sleep helps to keep them healthy.

Try and get 6 to 8 hours every night for a week leading up to the move. You’ll be on the road for a long time, and you don’t want to get tired while driving. Drinking tons of caffeine won’t help you, either. You’ll need to stop for numerous bathroom breaks, which will most likely delay your schedule.

Stay Hydrated

When we say stay hydrated, we do not mean drinking coffee. You need to keep a water bottle on deck, but you also need to drink plenty of water before the big move. Dehydration could cause a migraine, stomach problems, or even a fever.

Try and follow the doctors with four to six cups of water a day and make sure you have fresh water inside the van with you on moving day.

Avoid Stress

We know that it sounds like an unrealistic request, but just indulge us for a minute. Avoid stress. Don’t let it eat away at you. Remove it from your mind. When you start to feel stressed out, take a step back and take a deep breath.

See if the very thing trying to stress you out is worth it. Furthermore, try and get things done ahead of time, so you don’t feel overwhelmed on the day of the move. Start a list a few months in advance and check things off one by one. The list should be very short on moving day.

Pack Good Snacks

Don’t stop at the gas station or a fast-food spot. Greasy and artificial food during a time like this is never good for you. Go to the store a couple of days before and get healthy non-perishable snacks.

Keep them stored away and close by, so you remember to keep them upfront with you on the drive. If you decide to get any fruits, you need to pick those up earlier that day, so it doesn’t get in the way of any of your other plans.

Ask for Help

Never try to do any of this stuff by yourself. Recruiting help on a long-distance move is always wise.
